Where to Purchase a Domain in 2024

It’s 2024. Unless you have a very small niche business, having a registered domain name is critical to being “real”. Luckily they are easy to get and for the most part, affordable. You register them in yearly terms; and with most Registrars you can prepay for up to 10 years. If a domain fails to be renewed, it will eventually become available for purchase again.

Please do not use GoDaddy. They engage in predatory and anti-consumerist practices.

PorkBun

When Google Domains sold, I transferred most of my domains to PorkBun. They are based in the USA, have a fun website, an API that is easy to use, and overall they have a happy online community. PorkBun is our preferred Registrar!

CloudFlare

CloudFlare is getting a special mention. They are probably the best value considering they offer domains at cost. However unlike most other Registrar, they do not allow you to change your Authoritative Name servers. This is only a minor drawback and should not be a deal breaker.
